Shane MacGowan was world away from his former punk prowess on Saturday night, as he spent a night partying with U2 and other rockers in Dublin, Ireland.
Almost a year to the day since his partner Victoria Mary Clarke declared him sober for 'the first time in years', the wheel-chair bound Pogues frontman was supported into a car, still swigging beer on his way home from Roberto's Restaurant.
It's been a turbulent 2017 for the singer, who lost his beloved mother Therese on New Year's Day in a fatal car crash.

The music icon appeared a little frail in his wheelchair as he was given a helping hand into an awaiting car on the way home.

He was turned out in a smart suit, worn with a bright purple polo shirt, but he shielded his eyes from view in dark shades.
Greying and thinning on top, his hair was unstyled and his appearance was unshaven, much like the other ageing rockers in attendance.

But Shane was still drinking as he departed in a car, despite his partner's claims that he had quit drinking in 2016.
'Shane's work and his drinking have always gone hand in hand,' Victoria told The Irish Independent last October.
She added: 'It took some time before Shane's drinking went from being just a normal part of life to being a problem.
'There were mood swings too, and there were fights. But, in the early days, most of our friends had worse mood swings and worse fights.'

In the interview, she confirmed that the musician was happy after a few months' detox in mid-2016.
Following a hospital stay for pneumonia, the singer had decided to kick his drinking habit and take care of his health.
Shane has been devastated by the loss of his mother, ever since he discovered the news on 1 January.

On the third day, she was moved to a mountainside retreat about 15 miles from the city, where she was filmed enjoying the fresh air, claiming she could now successfully practice. Onlookers at Therese's funeral told The Irish Mirror of The Pogues' frontman: 'He looked really pale and weak and needed to be pushed in a wheelchair.
'His mother only died suddenly a few days ago so he obviously trying to deal with that.'

His girlfriend, TV presenter Victoria Mary Clarke posted a photo of his new smile on Twitter on Wednesday, writing: '#shanemacgowan showing off the gold tooth at the U2 party.'
As well as his new smile, the rocker was also in a wheelchair as he continues to recuperate from breaking his pelvis in a fall nearly three months ago.
Despite his impaired mobility, Shane proved he was still as hard a partier as ever as he was the last to leave the party at O'Donoghue's pub until 5am on Wednesday morning.

It looked like he was willing to continue the revelry on the way home as he was still carrying a pint glass as he was wheeled to his taxi.
The party took place after U2's second of their four sold-out gigs in Dublin at the 3Arena - their first indoor concerts in Ireland for decades.
Earlier this week it was revealed Sky Arts were making a documentary about Shane undergoing oral surgery to have dental implants fitted, entitled Shane MacGowan: A Wreck Reborn.
The one-hour special will feature interviews with his friends Johnny Depp and Pete Doherty.

Shane has long been known for his dental problems and briefly wore dentures in 2009, before declaring they made him 'look like a d**khead'.
After Victoria had her teeth done in 2014, he made an appointment with the same dentist, Dr Darragh Mulrooney, who is based in Mullingar, County Westmeath.
He told the Irish Sun newspaper: 'I had two operations and I've to go back in again but most of the work is done.
'It was a bit swollen for the first few days but I’m feeling good now. I’m getting used to them now.'
